BRISTOL — It was a great day for the Pioneers at the Southwest District track meet on Tuesday at Virginia High School. It started with Lia Beck throwing a state qualifying throw in discus breaking her own school record with a throw of 112-9. It broke her previous record by ten feet, for a second-place finish. Beck also finished in second place in the shot put. Beck had already qualified for state and holds the LHS school record.
Averi Russell had a big PR to win the SWD title in the 800. It was a very impressive performance as Russell plays tennis full-time and only runs when she can.
Eli Taylor had two big finishes behind his teammate Derek Mitchell in the 1600 and 3200 meters. Mitchell won the 1600 and 3200 to claim district championships. Both Mitchell and Taylor had already qualified for state in 1600 and 3200.
