HONAKER, Va. – The Honaker Tigers have a new head baseball coach in Derrick Murphy, but there is a familiar figure on the mound.
Junior right-hander Connor Musick returned following a busy off-season of conditioning and competition.
“My goal entering this season was to be bigger, stronger and faster,” Musick said.
Mission accomplished.
In just a year, the 6-1 and 185-pound Musick has grown two inches and 20 pounds.
“That’s making a big difference on the mound, at the plate and on the base paths,” Musick said.
Musick delivered around another all-around performance Tuesday at Harding Field as Honaker downed Rural Retreat Indians 5-4 in the Hogoheegee District opener for both teams.
Despite battling the effects of a cold, Musick allowed just three hits and one run while striking out seven over the first four innings. He also delivered a line single and ended the game with a difficult catch of a pop fly at shortstop.
