HONAKER, Va. – In a game that was mostly a defensive battle, senior Alayna McNulty put Honaker’s offense on her back and led the Tigers to a 43-34 win over scrappy Fort Chiswell in the VHSL Class 1 girls basketball state quarterfinals.

The win keeps Honaker’s season alive and sends them to George Wythe for a state semifinal clash on Friday night.

After the Tigers (28-1) were scoreless for six minutes in the third quarter and managed just four total points in the period, McNulty brought the offense to life in the fourth.

She scored nine of her game-high 22 points to rally the Tigers from a 27-23 deficit.

“It was an ugly win,” said Honaker coach Misty Davis Miller. “But we will take it.”
