BRISTOL, Va. – The Honaker Tigers are 27-1 in girls basketball and feature four players who stand at least five-foot-10.

One other stat is more impressive.

Over the past 16 games, Honaker has not allowed an opponent to score more than 39 points.

That streak continued Friday as the Tigers posted a 47-39 victory over the J.I. Burton Raiders in the Region 1D championship at the Bearcat Den.

“I’m very proud of that streak,” Honaker coach Misty Davis Miller said. “I’m a firm believer that defense wins games. Our girls have bought into that approach and that’s where they put their energy.”

Carey Keene was the energizer on Friday.

The 5-foot-11 junior generated 21 points, including five straight 3-pointers in the second half as Honaker pulled away.
