HONAKER, Va. – From the backyard to beach vacations, the Musick brothers grew up dreaming of games like Friday night.
Just call it an aerial show to remember for the Honaker Tigers at Fuller Field.
Six-foot-four senior Peyton Musick set a single game school record of 470 yards passing, while his 6-3 brother Avery established single-game records with 265 yards receiving and five touchdown receptions.
The Musick festival resulted in a 42-28 win for Honaker over the Patrick Henry Rebels.
“This is what we worked for as kids and during late nights after practice on the varsity,” Avery said. “Peyton is one of the best quarterbacks around and his throws are always on target.”
The old record of 422 yards for single game passing was held by Peyton Musick. The record for single game receiving yards was 201 and the mark for single game TD receptions was four.
As expected, the Musick brothers were swarmed by admirers after the past-game team meeting.
“It was an awesome night,” Peyton said. “Avery has to be the best receiver in Southwest Virginia.
“Whether it’s two people guarding him or not, it’s hard for any team to match Avery’s height and talent. Avery is a just a freak athlete and he definitely makes my job easier.”
PH (3-5, 0-3) built leads of 22-20 at halftime and 28-26 after three quarters.
“Then our kids answered the bell,” Honaker coach Shane Wicks. “That’s been the story for us over the last couple weeks.”
