The Virginia High School League will crown its six 2024 state football champions just 11 days before Christmas.
Pigskin fans in the Commonwealth received an early gift on Thursday morning when the VHSL released its master schedule.
That’s always a sign that the season is fast approaching.
Practice officially begins on Aug. 1.
After a quick perusal of that master schedule, here is a look at 15 games for the upcoming season with intriguing storylines:
Lebanon at Honaker (Aug. 29): This Thursday night game will get things started and will not only feature a matchup between two of the best quarterbacks in the area – Honaker’s Peyton Musick and Lebanon’s Mike Reece – it will also feature two new head coaches. Hunter Norris is now leading the program at Lebanon, while Honaker will name its head coach at Tuesday’s Russell County School board meeting after Todd Tiller was replaced following some legal issues.
Rye Cove at Honaker (Sept. 13): This is a rematch of last year’s Region 1D finals, a game in which Honaker prevailed 28-18.
