There was not an official hat trick recorded as Honaker posted a 6-0 win over Patrick Henry last week in the finals of the VHSL Region 1D boys soccer tournament, but Malachi Lowe completed a title trifecta both rare and rewarding.

The Tigers won regional championships and reached the state playoffs in football, boys basketball and boys soccer with Lowe being the only member of all three hardware-owning squads. Throw in the fact that he was the regional runner-up in the high jump and competed in that event during Saturday’s VHSL Class 1 outdoor track and field championships in Harrisonburg and it’s easy to see why it has been a scrapbook-worthy senior year.

“It definitely feels like all the hard work put into sports has finally paid off,” Lowe said. “After playing for these teams in my senior year, I couldn’t think of a better way to cap it all off.”

The 6-foot-1, 190-pound Lowe has not only been a part of those successful squads, but he’s produced his share of highlights by playing a pivotal role.
