GIRLS SOCCER

Honaker 3, Bland Co. 0

Bland County’s girls soccer team didn’t have any highlights on Monday in the first round of the VHSL Region 1C/1D girls soccer tournament because Honaker had Lowes.

Isabella Lowe scored a goal and goalkeeper McKenzie Lowe got the shutout as the Tigers took a 3-0 triumph over the Bears.

Honaker (9-6) plays either George Wythe or Giles – that match was postponed due to wet field conditions on Monday and will be played today – on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. in the semifinals at Christiansburg High School.

Kedryn Hess and Lexi Ray also scored in Monday’s victory.

BOYS SOCCER

Honaker 14, Rural Retreat 1

The Honaker Tigers were playing their first match in 18 days on Monday.

So much for rust.

Honaker scored 10 first-half goals en route to rocking Rural Retreat in the semifinals of the Region 1D tournament.

Thomas Ball and Jaxon Dye had four goals for Honaker (14-2-1), while Jaylon Hart scored three goals.

Eric Ball, Landon Viers and Malachi Lowe also found the back of the net.

“I thought we played well after not playing for long period of time,” said Honaker coach Wilburn Johnson. “I was really pleased with our effort and how well we distributed the ball.  We had an opportunity to get everyone involved which is always good. Really pleased with our effort.”

Rural Retreat (0-15) got its goal from Gunner Hagerman.
