Kate Jessee

The run of success for Honaker High School’s girls basketball team over the past three seasons has included 70 victories, a state title and an extensive haul of hardware.

Reliable post player Kate Jessee is an unsung hero who has played an important part in those achievements.

“I can’t say enough about her,” said Honaker coach Misty Davis Miller. “She is one of the most selfless and hard-working players I’ve ever coached. She is willing to do all the dirty work that doesn’t always show up on stat sheets. She means so much to this team and she plays with everything she has.”

Jessee has been her steady self this season in averaging 12 points, eight rebounds, three steals and two assists per game as Honaker (24-4) has reached the VHSL Class 1 state semifinals and will face the Eastside Spartans (20-7) on Friday at 6 p.m. at the David J. Prior Convocation Center on the campus of the University of Virginia’s College at Wise.
