WISE, Va. – Waylon Hart wants to take the fun out of basketball for the opposition when Honaker takes the floor.
They certainly did it on Saturday, throttling Chilhowie to earn the Region 1D championship with a dominant 45-24 victory over the Warriors on Saturday afternoon at the University of Virginia’s College at Wise’s Prior Center.
Honaker (21-7) put three players in doubles figures, while using its stifling defense to limit Chilhowie to 17.1 percent from the field, with the Warriors finally reaching double figures with 2:29 to play in the third quarter.
“We talk about it, we have a commitment to it,” said Hart, who won a region title in his fourth try, having lost one as a player and two as a coach prior to Saturday. “We talk about it all time and it sounds cocky. We don’t mean to be cocky about it, but we want to make it no fun to play against us. We don’t want it to be fun. Have we had teams get us? Yeah, they have, but that is our intention not to make it fun and we were locked in really good tonight.”
