SALTVILLE, Va. – The girls basketball team at Honaker High School has so thoroughly dominated Hogoheegee District opponents this winter that it’s kind of become ho-hum.

Yet, Wednesday might have been the most impressive example of superiority yet for the Tigers as they reeled off a 51-0 run – yes, 51-0 – in posting a 75-6 victory over the Patrick Henry Rebels in the semifinals of the Hogoheegee hoops tournament at Northwood High School.

Patrick Henry (5-17) pulled within 6-2 of the Tigers with 5:30 left in the first quarter on a bucket by senior Shaina Addair. The Rebels wouldn’t score again until Savannah Riley’s jumpshot with 1:06 remained in the third quarter.

Honaker (20-3) sandwiched 51 points in between those PH shots – 20 two-pointers from putbacks to layups to runners to jumpers; three 3-pointers and two free throws – in hammering out the win.

The Tigers collectively had 21 steals.

“I told the girls this is a season full of phases and we want to be able to take care of the district tournament and win a trophy and play hard,” said Honaker coach Misty Davis Miller. “We want to keep trying to improve. There’s a lot of talent on this team. If these girls hold everything together and play hard, they have a real shot to go far.”
