HONAKER — Move over, Peyton Musick. Honaker’s star quarterback has one more year. But senior running back Aidan Lowe wasn’t ready to hang up his cleats yet.
Lowe rushed for three touchdowns and helped carry the Tigers to the Region 1D championship Saturday afternoon, Honaker’s first region crown since 2000. Rye Cove fought back in the second half but couldn’t regain the lead, falling 28-18 at Fuller Field.
“We wanted to get Aidan more touches, especially early on,” Honaker coach Todd Tiller said. “That was the key for us because we knew coming in (Rye Cove) would probably try and stop our passing game. We were able to get going in the run game, and that helped us late in the game there.”
Indeed. The Tigers (13-0) won the rushing battle 214-118. Lowe accounted for 164 of those yards on 24 attempts, breaking the 1,000-yard barrier for the season.
