Hannah Baggett of Honaker was in need of a high school-level credential when she enrolled in my GED® test prep class in July of 2019. Hannah had been homeschooled for years and then entered high school. During that season of her life, her family moved a lot; consequently, the frequent moves made earning a GED® certificate a desirable option for Hannah. A friend told Hannah about Southwest Regional Adult Education (SRAE), and Hannah moved forward with her plan. After joining the class, Hannah found that she liked its relaxed atmosphere in which she could work and study unpressured at her own pace.
During the weeks that followed, Hannah worked a job and continued attending class. She quickly experienced success by passing three of the four GED® subject tests. Then all she lacked was passing the Mathematical Reasoning test in order to reach her goal. Mathematics had always been Hannah’s biggest academic challenge. She felt a lot of internal anxiety and pressure when it came to passing that last test. With her work schedule, Hannah’s days to attend class in person became less and less, but she was able to continue her studies over the course of the next several months using textbooks and GED® Academy, an online instructional program, offered through SRAE.
As Hannah was nearing the completion of her GED® testing, the COVID-19 Pandemic struck. Adult education face-to-face classes and GED® testing centers were closed. Although, the pandemic posed a setback in the process, Hannah continued to prepare for that last test until she could return to class.
In October 2020, Hannah returned to my class to take a GED® Ready Mathematical Reasoning practice test. She passed the practice test, and on October 29, 2020, Hannah took and passed the final test that would complete her GED® credential. She had persevered through a difficult time and reached her goal of earning her GED® certificate! Hannah said the lesson she learned through this entire process was, “Anything you set your mind to do, you can do. You can overcome any obstacle if you work hard on it.”
What has changed for Hannah since completing the program? She now has her high school-level credential along with a huge confidence boost, and she has gained the academic skills needed to move forward. Hannah’s next steps are to continue working and furthering her education. She aspires to receive training and work in the medical field.
Southwest Regional Adult Education congratulates Hannah Baggett on her success. If you didn’t complete high school, the opportunity to earn a GED® certificate awaits you.
